The reason a big social media presence is important for a lot of those projects is the space they operate in is much in its infancy. And as such people don't exactly understand the fundamentals (if any) or tangible value any of these projects really bring
As such a good social media following is seen as people 'vouching'/word of mouth for the project. which is much easier for people to wrap their head around than try and understand the project.
The semi conductor space is a lot older and good things in it take time, but the proof is always in the work. not really worried about WBT 'lack' of social media presence.
