It is dependant upon your trading status.
It can count as "stock on hand" so therefor closing price at 30th June counts as book value for taxation purposes

True to a degree, but the above gives every reason not to announce prior to June 30th.. and companies do take time before they announce, whether you think they have no choice or not.
