Only options I execute these days after getting caught out with uncovered puts on NCP back on Sep 10th 2001 [watched them drop from $20 to $5 and bought them at $20... gah!!!] are covered calls. Much safer and quite profitable - I find a good covered call strategy to be worth about 20% p.a.
Enter a position with a buy-write [eg I purchased BHP yesterday @ 36.78, accompanied with a July call on the long position, strike of $37, premium of $1.28... that puts my entry price at $35.50 less bro.
Expecting to sell at end of July for $37 ... if its close to strike, will roll up to new strike into next month.
If she drops further, will buy more...
Hallelujah, thats $1.50 / $37 (4%) in 28 days.
