I use bollinger bands to help with direction and entry.

On a daytrading basis on a 2min chart wth big caps ill use the tightening of bollinger bands to help with a move either way.

I have found as the day goes in the bollys will narrow in range and come closer to each other.

Once a stock breaks up or down out of the range get on the direction of this move for a quick turn.
