This is not in context with the current debate but for those looking for software.

I have used TradeStation for maybe 15 years or longer and loved it.

Sadly, the EOD version I have used is no longer supported and hardware and software changes have made it increasingly difficult to run.

MultiCharts looks very similar and at first glance was a real alternative.

Despite problems with utilizing ASCII files I have continued to experiment.

What I find amazing is that with an old slow processor in an old computer my hand writtten indicators appeared instantaneously under TS. With a new computer with the fastest processor available, under MultiCharts, it takes over 90 seconds for handwritten indicators to appear.
