I read a story about how Marlon Brandos wife did exactly that to their fridge to try and control his runaway eating. Anyway, he had a locksmith working on the house at the time so he got him to teach him how to pick locks. Then after he'd sneak down in the middle of the night pick the padlock, eat everything in it then replace it.
"MARLON'' his wife would scream when she'd discover the empty fridge next morning.
Marlon would shuffle in and fix her with an innocent stare "But it was locked".
