The 50/50 idea is much better logic than the target 1:3 ideas, as how do you know where something will go and stop? You can predict, but that is it.
I prefer, to take the 50/50 style, and let the 50% run. Even if it works just 40% of the time. All about odds.
Hope that makes sense. Probably not, lol.
