I have been giving some thought to the production on the pathfinder well and trying to get my head around it. If we consider the following, 1 barrel of oil = 159 ltrs. Therefore over a 12 hour period this well produced 33,390 litres of oil (210.4 x 159ltrs). That is 2,783 per hour OR 46 per minute or 770ml per second. All of this through a 1/64 inch choke (which has a bore diameter of 4mm). I understand that increasing the choke will result in a decrease in pressure, however can you imagine the amount of pressure currently required to push 46ltrs of oil per hour through a 4mm hole?
I’m no engineer and I know very little about fluid dynamics however I can safely say we’re not talking garden hoses here. I think we are likely to see a substantial increase in the BOEPD once they open the choke.
