I think a way to test for an appropriate weight level is, for example, do a bicep curl with the dumb bells, if you still can do more than, say, 10 or 12 repetitions, then the weight is too light.
There are two types of weight training: one to develop muscles, the other is to develop stamina, different weight considerations.
