Weir Minerals to deliver ‘big consignment of cyclones to Kenya’s Kwale mineral sands project
Posted on November 19, 2012 by linkcrusher
Mining solutions provider Weir Minerals Africa received a substantial order for the supply of its Cavex cyclones to Base Resources’ Kwale mineral sands project, located 10 km inland from the Kenyan coast and 50 km south of the city of Mombasa.

“Cavex cyclones offer a unique solutiobuy stone crusher in costa rican for slurry applications in the mining and mineral processing industry. They have been designed to deliver maximum efficiency and capacity, while providing longer wear life than conventional designs.

“These cyclones provide enhanced dewatering and desliming efficiency, reduced product loss, improved product recovery and increased circuit capacity by minimising the quantity of material escaping to the underflow or over- flow streams,” explains Weir Minerals Africa cyclones and engineered systems product manager JD Singleton.

The order is one of the company’s biggest to date in Africa and is also the first time that the company will include Linatex rubber liners in its Cavex technology.

The order comprises one cluster of twelve 500 CVX cyclones and a second cluster of eight 650 CVX cyclones, as well as a variety of 24 additional cyclones and stackers ranging in size from 100 CVX to 650 CVX. Both Cavex clusters include the supply of Isogate valves with Linatex rubber linings.

These Cavex design improvements result in lower operating costs and fewer cyclones required for a given duty. The result is greatly reduced turbulence, creating more even wear, longer life and more efficient classification.

Ore mining and production at the Kwale mineral sands project are scheduled to start in August 2013, with a 13-year mine life during which ilmenite, rutile and zircon will be produced.

The order will be delivered in October and Weir Minerals Africa’s branch in East Africa at the Kwale mineral sands project will provide product support and commission the equipment.

All the Cavex stackers are fitted with Linatex discharge regulating valves, incorporating Linatex separator technology and the cluster distributor is top fed, according to specific requirements.

In addition, a second order was placed for 55 pumps, including plant and sump pumps tailings pumps, as well as cyclone feed pumps, which will be delivered between December 2012 and February 2013.

“This significant pump order is supplied from our complete range of Warman AH pumps. The order includes 450 MCR and 550 MCR units – two of the biggest sizes in this range.

“Weir Minerals Africa is proud to have been selected to supply this extensive range of cyclone and pump products, which includes most of our brands, to the Kwale project,” says Weir Minerals Africa slurry pumps product manager Rui Gomes.
