Its a very strange letter. I cannot believe that all those in chief positions in the automotive industry will not have examined their supply chain risks. Just does not seem at all likely.
The only other possibility is that they have a player on the hook, but they are trying to extract more from them and are signalling they are quite prepared to wait to get the right (priced) partner. Musk would want a giveaway thats his M.O. and this maybe a polite signal the offer isn't good enough.
We shall see.
