the 8" fabs also have better equip for MEMS fab along with a more economical chip production. This might have been a factor. However, since there is a learning curve (a bigger one than anyone thought likely), it is better to have 3 fabs with the capability rather than just one. So when production actually kicks in, the ability to produce volume is increased.
