FYI: If you sell at a loss and buy back a stock soon after just to incur a tax deduction then that is defined by the ATO as a "wash sale". If they deem a transaction to be that, then they disallow the tax deduction and you also incur fines. In June last year the ATO advised that they would be looking out for this, by using data matching.
