I haven't been paying much attention to the DNC convention because I have no interest in voting for either the Dems or the Repubs and find pretty much all politicians to be disgusting pieces of shit. But I did read on Middle Eastern news sites today that the DNC refused to grant time for a Palestinian speaker to talk on the main stage of the convention. "The Uncommitted movement had asked for Tanya Haj-Hassan, a doctor who had worked in Gaza, to speak on the main stage, but the DNC only offered a panel on the sidelines of the convention."
The DNC allowed Israeli hostages' families to speak on the main stage last night.
The Uncommitted delegates held a sit-in last night and said that Biden, Harris and both their teams were aware of the request for a Palestinian speaker (and presumably aware of the denial). They had offered a list of dozens of potential speakers to the Democrats, so clearly it was not an issue about the doctor they had suggested as their top choice.
As a result of the DNC denial, a group called Muslim Women for Harris-Walz has decided to disband. They put out this tweet along with their statement:
-----------------"Muslim Women for Harris-Walz" is disbanding over the DNC's refusal to allow a Palestinian-American on stage.
They write: "The family of the Israeli Hostage that was on the stage tonight, has shown more empathy towards Palestinian Americans and Palestinians, than our candidate or the DNC has."
Statement: We cannot in good conscience, continue Muslim Women for Harris-Walz, in light of this new information from the Uncommitted movement, that VP Harris’ team declined their request to have a Palestinian American speaker take the stage at the DNC.
The family of the Israeli hostage that was on the stage tonight [Wed], has shown more empathy towards Palestinian Americans and Palestinians, than our candidate or the DNC has.
This is a terrible message to send to Democrats. Palestinians have the right to speak about Palestine.
We pray that the DNC and VP Harris’ team makes the right decision before this convention is over. For the sake of each of us.
