From my experiences in the Browse Basin I'd hazard a guess that the kick theyve taken is the result of hitting an overpressured thin sand or silty horizon with a bit of permeability. A pretty common scenario in the Browse Basin where formations such as the Jamieson and Echuca Shoals are commonly overpressured.
