PNG is very much a Christian country and extremely tribal.Some tribes are not on good terms with strangers, in fact they treat them with extreme suspicion.

Any hurt done to one of the tribe is countered with the "payback system". A tooth for a tooth,an arm for an arm,etc.
I'm almost sure that cannibalism has lost much of its flavour, but I would suggest that the incoming Muslims should be very careful when dealing with these locals who can be quite 'firedup' when aroused.

To make visitors feel more at home the PNG Government has just reintroduced the death penalty.
