I am an immigrant and like many other immigrants have been harassed for looking different, talking different and having a different culture. Growing up I copped as much as Asians, Italians, Greeks etc, The premise of the diversity council is that I can’t be racially discriminated against because a group of other people that have the same colour skin as me oppressed some people who have different coloured skin. That makes about as much sense as me hating all aboriginals because a group of aboriginals committed crimes against some white people.
I wouldn’t expect you to see the irony in their statement as some of the language you use here makes me believe that you are biased in your thinking. I grew up in an era when you were told not to worry about what people said to you and just get on with life. It was basically anything goes and racism was rife. I have long removed myself from people that think that racism, casual or otherwise , is acceptable behaviour.
You can’t stamp out racism by allowing a certain group to say whatever they want to another group based on the premise that black people have been oppressed by white people. If I was walking down the street and someone call me a name I would ignore it, if the same person referred to the colour of my skin or ethnicity I would challenge them on it. Not because it bothers me but if people want respect they need to give respect. Using a racial slur , no matter who is slagging off who, just keeps the gap open wide. I have worked and lived along side all different ethnicities and I am yet to see what privilege I have because I am white. Haters are haters and if it’s not race then they will hate you for some other reason.
