Around 1975 when the communists were carrying all before them in Indo-China, I asked my father why those people were fighting for communism, a system that would ultimately oppress them.
My father suggested they were so disillusioned with their present governments, that they were willing to accept anything as an alternative.
Suffering under the parliaments here, their unbridled corruption, their inveterate incompetence, and their punishing totalitarian rule, I can empaphise with the Indo-Chinese at that time.
And so, while I would never stoop to communism for relief, I would definitely welcome a peaceful handover of federal and state government to the Swedes, in the hope that they might be able to put this country right, if it is not already too late.
