I wouldn't let those hardy environmental hipters annoy you. Many of my friends jump on the global warming bandwagon and anti-fossil fuel because, some with good intention, but most of them think they sound hip and cool saving humanity and against capitalism (strangely enough, many of them are materialistic to the bone).

I am not against protecting environment or CO2 reduction (limiting). Against coal burning however because of sulfide/mercurry and particulates releases. But one has to be practical and scientific based.

In fact, burn fossil fuel in someway maintain a balance of atmospheric CO2 (if we don't burn all fossil fuel to quickly however) and it is possible to keep it at an equilibrium. Just imagine, millions years ago CO2 was saturated in the air and then come along algae then plants, animal, and human who fix the CO2 or carbon permanently into their tissues and materials (in case of human, plastic and soon carbon fibre/nanotube marterial). This continuation of fixing carbon into living organism eventually bring down CO2 and make it livable for other organisim (human) which the continue to fix carbon into their tissues which decomposed into nat gas and oil. Unless, volcanoes erupt or bush fire release enough CO2 back into the air eventually most CO2 will be fixed into tissues or fossil fuels. Now, where the future plants and algae will get their CO2 to fix into their tissue if this happens. Maybe naive to think like this but in my opinion they need to think more broadly and outside their boxes then just global warming.
