Sorry but that view is incorrect - If you go to a bank they value your asset at market price - if you value it at anything other than market price you are in fact placing an emotional premium on it.
The price is the price - what you think its worth is a different value but the price is what willing buyers and willing sellers are trading at.
This idea that its only a paper loss is just plain wrong - My bank statement is paper but the value on it is real. The value today is the market price valuing it on any other basis is how you get to make a small fortune by starting with a large fortune.
