The F-Block that they use has 4 holes in it. When the house is designed for the F-blocks specifically, the hole line up and you have a vertical cavity where wires and pipes can be dropped down.
I wouldn't exactly call it a cavity though, certainly not like the traditional cavities that we are used to.
