    The CEO is driving a hybrid car and begging for money....

    The chief executives of the top car companies in the US are again pleading for a massive government rescue plan.

    The car companies say they desperately need $40 billion, and the head of the auto workers union, Ron Gettelfinger, predicted dire consequences if they do not get it.

    "I do not believe General Motors will make it out of the end of the year," he said.

    The chief executives drove from Detroit in hybrid cars. Last time they asked congress for money they flew in private jets.

    General Motors' CEO, Rick Wagoner, acknowledged his company has made mistakes.

    "We're sorry to be asking for this support. We wish the market conditions were better," he said.

    "They're not so this is what we need to do."

    The CEOs promised to slash staff and build more fuel-efficient cars.
