I understand all of the technical details, but just how much of today's action on Wall Street was attributabale to Corporate concerns regarding Tyco (re: financials, governance, disclosure, etc)?

In answering this, I think that you will find a number of Australian investors holding shares in Tyco (ie: in those circumstances where they currently have exposure to the US market).

I am not one of them, but must admit that the stock has persistently been tipped to me throughout May, and has continually been rated a Strong Buy by UBS Warburg (target: US$41.00), and CSFB (target, pre-restriction: US$54.00). Currently, CSFB is unable to target Tyco due to accepting an advisory assignment withf them.
