Employees of the US securities watchdog, the Securities and Exchange Commission, are incredibly good stock pickers, according to a report suggesting some are trading on inside information relating to its investigations and enforcement actions.

In the report, The Stock Picking Skills of SEC Employees, researchers found SEC employees ''systematically beat the market by making sales within weeks of costly enforcement actions by the agency'', a Washington Post report on the report said.

''In short, it appears SEC employees continue to take advantage of non-public information to trade profitably in stocks under their regulatory purview.''

Given ASIC's lack of success on enforcement in Australia, CBD imagines its employees are safe from any suggestions of insider trading."
