About three months ago, Metcash (Mitre 10) purchased 70% of Total Tools which have stores located up and down the East Coast. Their plan is to spend at least $95m in the next three years opening another 42 stores and refurbishing most of the 88 existing stores. It looks like this is the way for the hardware stores to go in the future. A typical Total Tools store has a greater range of tools than a Bunnings section and more knowledgeable staff. Obviously Wesfarmers are smart enough to recognize this.
