Bit of lateral thinking on a Monday. The iron ore trains that travel past the PLS site -
If the ratio of PLS ore trucks to iron ore trucks is say 1 in 10, is a separate train needed that has to start at PLS, enter the queue on the main line, and stop at Port Hedland?
- How many trains run past each week?
- How many trucks in each?
- How does that compare with the number of trucks PLS needs to send each week to achieve the equivalent of digging up 4Mtpa of ore?
How hard would it be in this age of technology to shunt the ore trucks from PLS to the main line 20 km away just before an iron ore train arrives, and have it give the trucks a shove to Port Hedland? Would doing it that way cost less than $20 per tonne?
Got that idea from the ABC. "Toot toot", said Thomas.
