Yesterday I read posts by @ozblue, @Wombat2, @kcheers and others for and against road and rail. At that stage, it appeared to me (and to a few others too, judging by later posts) that both options were viable. Plenty of calculations of dollars per km to build rail, number of trucks per month, guesstimates of cost per tonne, etc.
Then I got to wondering how practical it is to have so many vehicles travelling day after day for year after year up that one single highway. Does the road flood? Do potholes ever form? Does any other transport have priority? How much other traffic has to share the road? Are road maintenance costs included in the comparisons?
If "...it is extremely unlikely PLS will gain access to rail...", then there is only one option, and my questions are of course redundant - PLS just has to grin and bear it.
So sorry.
