You borrow say 50,000 shares of NUH from a broker. Those shares get sold as soon as you borrow them and you get credited the sale. (say 50,000 shares X current SP 9.1cent = $4550) That $4550 goes into your account. Now you are hoping that the SP of NUH goes down so you can sell those borrowed shares back to the broker. (say SP goes down to 7 cents so 50000 X 7 cents = $3500)
So you sell them back to the broker at 7cents ($3500) you then pocket the difference so $4550 - $3500 = $1050. This is a simple example and I have left brokerage out.
PS - you would have to be special to short NUH with the launch next week.
