does anyone recall true Westpac history when known as Bank of NSW [aka Wales ]? A journalist claims Bank NSW owned by NSW Govt..i think he confused by possible due to recession years and 1890's bust

Bank of NSW aka The Wales list on ASX later became Westpac was publically listed and moved in 1970's to grab a share of the loan market in Melbourne. The State Bank of NSW suffered the same fate as SSB of Vic and SA all needing to be sold due to capital losses because of "The Recession We Had To Have" under Paul Keating as Treasurer when housing interest rates rose to about 19%.
