Only with an oligopoly with the four majors, bailed out from time to time by Govt (taxpayers) for a sector who spruiks and boasts of the free and open markets in private business economy. Would the likes of WBC exist and operate in the USA where the competition in the banking sector is very real. Aussie banks are not always sound (eg Bankwest, Bank Melbourne, and all those State banks.)
