Hey Mackeral, A few facts; It was only a possible scandal, Westpac failed to comply with AUSTRAC reporting, There was no actual proof that anyone used Westpac's failing to send money anywhere, Chances are that someone or more could have, but no actual proof that it happened.
Westpac was fined because it "left the money laundering door open" not for any specific laundering or for being complicit. I.e. Westpac was accused of paedophilia, just 'stupidity'. Westpac was not knowingly assisting paedophiles, but may have unwittingly done so. It was so Looooong ago but some can't let it rest.
Personally, I didn't own WBC back then, but bought in during Covid, I'm up well over 100% on capital, plus dividends. I'm not sure why people who don't own WBC shares would continue to bang on about something that is ancient history and doesn't affect them anyway . . .
