retail can short with ease, open a CFD account sport. Not sure retail is meant to be a bad thing? No one here in an institutional investor as no one here has several billion to be considered as such. I’ve worked in institutional fund managers, they are actually astoundingly unsophisticated in many senses and over burdened by regulation and compliance to really make any good calls. Then add in the herd like mentality of their model variables, which is why they were caught off guard on day WBCs result and being overly negative. You’ll also find most underperform the market (index fund) over any period longer than 3 years.
Not saying WBC is a stellar stock, but I’ll hold it for index weighting just like institutional investors often do for performance. I considered it cheap when it was under a 10 forward PE the other week, mind you almost everything was cheap the other week when the market correct on bond yields soaring.
