Are they? I just read the following:
The quarterly loss gives Tesla an annual loss of US$2.2 billion and mounting debt.
The point I was trying to make was that Tesla's share price now is factoring in a future event that may or may not happen (because it's the future) that they will settle down all that upfront capital investment and make an operating profit such that for example they could pay a dividend.
This was in response to the comments that the market doesn't necessarily factor in emotion/love/hype, I reckon there's a fair bit of that in SP valuations along with all the other company shenanigan stuff. A lot of investors invested in the likes of FB/Google/Yahoo etc etc based on hype/love that they too would one day make a operating profit.
