Using a VPN will neither safeguard your mobile network, nor your kids.
The vast majority of malware infections use people as their vector.
Education is the key. Don't click on random things, never respond to emails asking for login credentials and don't open unsolicited emails and attachments. These simple things will do more to protect people from malware than a VPN.
