You are simply wrong Onceover
those yellow dots represent areas where there has been gold operations (small and medium sized mines) undertaken over the last 140 years. The evidence is represented physically by existing shafts and pits.
The old timers didn’t dig holes because they thought there was no gold there.
Agnew/Lawlers though has produced 6.7 million ounces under Goldfields ownership since 1987 (that’s a serious mine) .. but other owners were mining there 130 years ago
many of the old timers activities and their gold yields have not been recorded at dept Mines but some pits/shafts mapped (like most of WA) … but if you visit the area it is very obvious that there had been a great deal of activity a long time ago.
The old boys would have found surface quartz outcrops with gold … and they chased it (typically high grade to justify efforts)
The primary mineralised faults do run in N/S and NW/SE directions, but the intersections of cross shearing often deliver the bonanza grades.
anywhere in this general area is highly prospective for further gold mine discoveries and many of these mineralised shears are partially under soil cover and were not pursued by the old timers.
in the case of Thyacine, the 60 g/t gold rock chip samples are also contained in quartz (photos in ASX release) but the gold is remarkably fine because of an association with some other chemical elements (I.e. the old timers had no joy trying to pan gold sniffs, but the gold is there and now identified with modern assay techniques.
there is no sign of any old workings on the Metal Hawk ground and only a small portion of the leases have been prospected to date … no record of any drilling around Thyacine
