Circulose, developed by Renewcell (Sweden), is a biodegradable fibre pulp made from recycled cotton via chemical recycling. It’s been used by brands like Levi’s, H&M, and Pangaia. Despite Renewcell’s bankruptcy (due to overexpansion and supply chain issues), their tech and IP were valuable enough to be acquired by private equity group Altor, who now aim to scaleCirculose globally. Nullarbor, developed by Nanollose, is a tree-freemicrobial cellulose grown via fermentation.

Unlike Circulose, Nullabour doesn’t require old clothes or forests — it grows from liquid waste streams using bacteria, offering a truly circular and scalable solution!

While Renewcell overextended with factory capex and struggled with logistics, the demand for sustainable fibre pulp like Circulose remains strong. The
acquisition by Altor signals real value in the underlying technology and IP. If Nanollose can secure a major brand or licensing In the world of sustainable fashion, Nullarbor could follow a similar path – without the heavy factory model. In fact, the fermentation-based model may prove more modular, lower-cost, and climate-resilient.

At ~A$10M market cap, NC6 trades at a fraction of where Renewcell once stood, yet it’s targeting a similar global textile opportunity — with lower input risk and a patent-protected process.
