No they didn't.... USA sacrificed a tonne of sailors at the battle of the coral sea which stopped Japan invading us and they also bombed Darwin and sent midget subs into Sydney. So history isn't on the side of "the aggressive country was fine with having a little bit of resource supply". Germany invaded the Caucasus to get oil... Japan expanded to get oil and minerals.... etc etc.
