Interesting discussion vis a vis hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) tech For a long time I was waiting to see its development materialise into commercial reality and it seemed good progress was made on the safety issues (crash-proofing tanks, storage, etc). It certainly has its attractions imo even still.
I couldn't say which is the better technology, I just don't know enough about both. I did feel that the HFC tech would be limited by materials (particularly platinum) but there's always solutions to problems like that (alternatives, new sources - someone was telling me just yesterday about this conglmerate that was proposing to mine a particular asteroid that had 10x the amount of platinum that the whole of earth does - science fiction becoming reality, who knows - but economics will usually drive the answer).
But then again, its not always the question of the best tech winning, its about gaining critical mass, look at examples such as:
1. VHS winning over Beta video recorders
2. IBM/Intel gaining majority market share over Apple
3. Solar winning over wind (not saying wind is a better tech, but clearly solar has dominated backed by a massive industry)
This is where I think EV has the advantage over HFC tech.
At some point as an investor intending to invest in an industry, its necessary to take a view on which way it will head. HFC may gain ground and it may establish a market share and both options may survive & thrive in different sectors.
All interesting stuff, but at this point until there's more evidence that HFC will take that critical commercialisation step, EV seems a reasonable bet.
Cheers, Sharks.
