Treefern, you put in a strong objective argument about shorting, which I admire. Nevertheless I understand what Maya.m is saying: To deliberately target a share is intrinsically negative and destructive. Here we are investing in the positive construct of producing lithium and there they are (effectively) deliberately betting on (and so influencing) our failure. How can one objectively recieve a kick in the head and not feel ill of it?!
To amplify the effect, these professional shorters go in armed with a range of firepower we retailers could never dream of... shorters sell one single share at 93c for example and nail a new low! Retailers see that price and panic and herd behaviour multiplies the effect.
In a constructive sharemarket where there are already plenty of natural downside risks there are very few of us that see room for the contrived art of shorting! Simply trolls and wreckers IMO
