I haven't been following Metcash so I couldn't say.

Difficult to say if the trading halt is due to a takeover of GFF, if it is then the insiders aren't overly impressed given the drop in share price preceding the announcement. Other factor to consider is the Graeme Hart owns 20% so any takeover of GFF would need to meet with his approval.

There's no other trading halts late in the day in companies that are a likely fit, just miners.
