We've been over this before. CTL has been around since the 1930s. It involves conventional mining of coal and then surface gasification. That's what Sasol do.
What they are proposing here is UCG-GTL which, as I said, is embryonic technology (although combining two distinct proven but uncommonly utilised technologies) that has never been developed on a commercial scale.
Linc Energy is the frontrunner and they are still some years away.
