Don't under estimate the impact of the commercial leasing portfolio. If the guys are smart they can build it fairly quickly without compromising credit quality (the big risk). Even if they are a bit lax it takes time for the crystalisation of bad debts so you can report earnings quickly on the rise. Not until the book matures do bad and doubtfuls become an issue in any reasonably managed portfolio.
These days most commercial assets are able to be securitised as well hence funding is not a big issue
