I spent some time in Laos back in 1995, Vientiane and Luang Prabang.
It was fantastic back then, beautiful and tranquil, monks in robes praying on the streets, quiet bars, everyone super friendly and helpful.
We would buy bread and fresh fruit, tomatoes, cheese and make sandwiches down by the river while watching the sunrise or set.
My sympathies to families involved.
