Yes a great place to travel, I've been a backpacker / independent traveller to SE Asia over the past 40 years so I'm well aware of the risks. Currently driving in Northern Thailand on a 2 month trip. Unfortunately as a tourist much has changed so you'd really note the difference from 1995 till now. There are still parts untouched in Thailand,Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar but they're off the beaten track that why I like driving a 4 x4 as you can get to places where its difficult otherwise.
The young backpackers today tend to congregate in party hotspots and seem unaware of the dangers.
Unfortunately another young lady has just died, bringing the total to 5.
