I generally find city dwellers a little less conscious of their consumption; it's so easy for them to just go and buy stuff. Generalising here, but I feel people in rural / regional area are conscious of the value of things and less wasteful overall. Probably because lower incomes out here and people have to be more conscientious and resourceful and cannot just duck down to Costco or Woolies or Kmart to grab something. But yes issue of contaminating the recycle bin is probably across the board, city or regional area alike. People in remote areas may not even have recycle facilities... but given the present situation (of nothing being recycled anyway) I can see why some people have the attitude of 'why bother'.
