If you really think that the only reason for having the need for a better network in Australia is porn and piracy then I’m sorry, but IT is not something you understand much at all mate, maybe try a different sector.
The delivery of a better network doesn’t have to come with a higher cost to the user as its not going to be bleeding edge technology anyhow its technology widely in use now all over the world for more reasonable prices than the average 30gb 21Mbps plans.
its old mentality that TLS is the leader in telecom and its OLD wide spread copper network is what kept it alive so far. an old project manager in TLS that was our UNI professor has told us many many stories of how TLS would not like to improve Australia’s telecomm industry for years as it knows its the biggest and thought it can continue to get away with the mentality that because of Australia’s far and diverse demographic and geographical properties, its far more feasible to just leave things the way they are and profit on them rather than upgrade or improve the service..
there are many meshed strategies that can be implemented to tackle the challenges and of course the come at an initial cost which TLS was never interested in implementing.
in current times companies like IINET and TPG just to name a few have successfully used their own infrastructure, if we look at the rest of the world we are actually stuck in the 19th century here still using copper cables, look at Japan or Europe or many other examples even in the middle east that put both the prices and services available here to shame, it was about time TLS got a slap in the face, hopefully this wakes them up to change their old mentality of monopolizing the markets and forcing their products out of no other choice.
I do feel for the holders and wish them luck but for now I think it’s a very risky one with lots of uncertainties. The fact that lots of brokers recommended TLS last night helped them get out of some of their positions today I guess. Some very brave buying action was going on today hope the pull back doesn’t hurt too many.
Sitting on the sidelines sometimes and not having to pay for others mistakes, but each to their own, the price bubble should burst soon when holders realize that TLS may not be what they thought it will be for too long and when we all learn how exactly TLS is going to be broken into 2.
