    I've seen it and it does happen!

    WPG sold an 'empty' tenement they had simply explored (like BGS) (think theirs was iron ore sold to BHP, a few years ago) for $350m. This equated to a special dividend of $1.00/sh. Sp was at 25c before sale.... (spiked to $1.25~ post Ann pre divi)
