It sure does happen, look at Rudy Gomez. Pretty much self funded a tenement (Carrapateena) with the help of the S.A Gov and sold it for 250 million to Oz Minerals and will receive another 75 mil when they start producing.
That being said, OZL picked up the tenement for a bargain.
A November prefeasibility study estimated that the Carrapateena project could support a production rate of 61 000 t/y of copper and 63 000 oz/y of gold, over an estimated 20-year mine life.
Do the numbers on the above at todays prices.
Anyways, Rudy went and brought Drill Rigs and all he needed to be a self sustaining explorer with all the money he had just fallen into.
He never did find another Carrapateena!
