I think you’ll find NHC, YAN and APA are in the BKI portfolio for yield enhancement purposes (BKI yields a little better than its big cap LIC peers). Also worth remembering that they have been doing this with a significantly higher cash balance (recently, at least) which has probably hurt their overall portfolio returns.
Regarding NHC and YAN….Tom Millner would have a better understanding of coal than most LIC managers out. Having said that, I wouldn’t put it past the numpties in Canberra to eventually find a way of destroying our coal industry, especially if Labor find themselves in minority government after the next election, and rely on support (and demands) of The Greens.
