going back a couple of years i know of some large u/g mines having explored the idea of 'rfid' technology being implimented mainly for vehicle tracking and time keeping, (stop the early finishers), but have been put on the back burner due to cost...
as long as the leaky feeder system was installed in most parts of the mine and radios in machinery maintained, that was considered sufficient...
there was a system by 'minsite tech' that incoropates transponders in cap lamps available when i was involved in the industry but i have never seen it in operation in WA as I have been to a few mines, cost and high maint issues were the main reasons...
any 'system' than incorporates 'electronics' u/g has to be bullet proof and ultra reliable...
